Edward Elgar - La Capricieuse op. 17 für Violine und Klavier

After returning to the countryside from London, Edward Elgar earned a living from 1890 onwards primarily as a violin teacher - albeit out of necessity, since he was unable to make a living from composing. He found his daily life monotonous; in 1891, he apparently hoped to find fresh inspiration through the purchase of a violin from the workshop of the Italian maker Nicolò Gagliano. Filled with enthusiasm by his new instrument, he composed for himself La Capricieuse, a virtuoso bravura piece which was practically tailor-made for his Gagliano. According to a sketch, the piece was initially to be aptly titled 'Le Staccato', but 'capricious' captures the character of this popular encore number exceptionally well. Rupert Marshall-Luck now presents a Henle Urtext edition of this masterstroke, thus making it accessible for practical use. A showpiece also for advanced students!; Installé à la campagne après son retour de Londres, Elgar vécut à partir de 1890 principalement de son activité de professeur de violon - davantage par nécessité que par goût, car il ne pouvait vivre de sa composition. Un morceau de bravoure accessible aussi aux élèves avancés!; Nach seiner Rückkehr von London aufs Land finanzierte sich Edward Elgar ab 1890 in erster Linie als Geigenlehrer - allerdings eher gezwungenermaßen, da er vom Komponieren nicht leben konnte. Seinen Alltag empfand er als gleichförmig; frische Inspiration erhoffte er sich 1891 offenbar vom Kauf einer Geige aus der Werkstatt des Italieners Nicolò Gagliano. Begeistert von seinem neuen Instrument schuf er für sich selbst ein virtuoses Bravourstück, 'La Capricieuse', das er seiner Gagliano gewissermaßen auf den Leib schrieb. 'Le Staccato' sollte das Stück laut einer Skizze zuerst durchaus treffend heißen, aber 'kapriziös' trifft den Charakter der beliebten Zugabe-Nummer ausgesprochen gut. Rupert Marshall-Luck legt nun eine Henle-Urtextausgabe dieses Kabinettstückchens vor und erschließt es somit neu für die Praxis. Ein Paradestück auch für fortgeschrittene Schüler!
