Intelligent Transportation Systems: a private organizations perspective

This book investigates the overall process of adoption of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) in private organizations (e.g. logistics service providers and local public transport firms). Both students at undergraduate and master level and professionals from the technological sector and the logistics industry can benefit from this text. This book can be used as a strategic handbook to guide the selection and the evaluation of technological solutions for the transportation process. This text specifically addresses the following questions: What are the technologies that can be used to improve the transportation process What are the most suitable technologies for different types of transportation (e.g. full truckload, less than truckload, intermodal transportation) What are the tools that can be used to calculate the benefits and the return on investment of these solutions This book is an adaptation of a PhD thesis and is part of a wider research project conducted in conjunction with the Intelligent Transportation Systems Observatory of Politecnico di Milano, which surveyed a large number of firms operating in the transport sector.
