Produktbeschreibung

In the biography, the Taut brothers have their say as parents and husbands. In letters, diaries and eyewitness accounts, drawings and photos from the family album, two artistic personalities come to life - and with them the fates of their wives and children. The two talented brothers made a career as fellow architects in Berlin: Bruno (1880-1938) became known as a planner of large housing estates, Max (1884-1967) made a name for himself as an architect for the trade unions. Unda Hörner tells their closely linked lives as a family history against the background of the German Empire, the Weimar Republic, National Socialism and the post-war period. In addition to great successes, talent and character also had dramatic effects in private life. The brothers married sisters, daughters of a pub landlord, but only one of the two marriages lasted. Bruno, who went into exile in 1933 and died in Istanbul in 1938, was the visionary who moved in avant-garde and intellectual circles. His son Heinrich waged a lifelong inner struggle against his genial dad and famous uncle. The more down-to-earth, less communicative Max stayed in Berlin, where he managed to keep his head above water and continued to run the joint office. It was he who took on the joint legacy after 1945, as professor at the University of Fine Arts and architect of the post-war reconstruction.
